Fashion Tips from Fashion Experts – The Thinking Girl's Outfit

Glamour.com has enlisted Ashley Baker, a young Glamour editor, as the force behind their fashion blog, aptly named Slaves to Fashion. Ashley's blog offers that much-coveted insider's look into the world of New York fashion, fashion magazines, and proof that no one should be without side-bangs. Looking at the blog, Ashley's life must read much like a chick-lit novel, and for that I am, admittedly, horribly jealous.

A recent post has Ashley interviewing Maryellen Gordon, Deputy Editor of Glamour, for some workplace fashion tips. I pulled this quote from the interview, because I love when fashionable ladies promote the idea that how you dress often reveals how you feel about yourself - and that wearing black pants, though slimming, will do nothing to impress a woman like Gordon.

Any fashion advice for promotion-minded young women?

What I pay attention to is less that someone is dressed in an entirely professional way (I personally like to see some personality in the way someone dresses so I can get a sense of who they are) and more that they spent some time (even if it’s 10 minutes) to get dressed in something other than jeans and a sweater. It shows me they have respect for how they present themselves to the world, and, most important, have respect that the place they are going to each day requires a bit more thought than if they were hanging out in their living room!

Amen sister. And thank you for indicating that what one wears while, say, blogging on her couch about fashion, is no indication of a girl's fashion potential overall.

Meet Crosby Noricks

Hi. I'm Crosby, the founder of PR Couture and a fashion brand strategist. I care about supporting and celebrating fashion publicists as well as helping companies connect with their audiences in more meaningful ways. Recently, iMedia included me in their annual list of 25 Internet Marketing Leaders and Innovators, along with people from Starbucks, Twitter and Volkswagon, which I think is pretty neat. Like Elle Woods, I am a Gemini-vegetarian (that's about where the similarities end). Let's connect: Check out my full bio, Brand Elixer sessions or shoot me a note.
