International Journal of Cultural Studies has a call for papers. Of interest:

New Media, Cultural Production, and Work: A first domain of research would focus on historical contexts and critical discussions of the role of media work in contemporary society. Key concepts used in the field-new media, digital culture, work, culture and creative industries, media professions-should be highlighted and clearly articulated with co-creative practices old and new.

Media Professions: In a second domain we are looking for investigations of key media professions journalism, game development, television and motion picture production, advertising, public relations and marketing communications, popular music, fashion in terms of the changing nature of work in these professions, focusing on the convergence of the roles of professionals and amateurs and the implications for professional and/or organizational identity, and the management of creativity in a context of the signaled shift towards co-creative labor.

Fashion PR Spotlight: Stacy Broff of Diamond Girl Public Relations

(This is a repost of an original post that appeared on LA’s The Place – an online magazine for people who love living in Los Angeles featuring fun, sun, show business, culture, food, fashion, beauty and more.)

Stars Behind the Stars: Spotlight on Stacy Broff

sb.jpgStacy Broff, president of Diamond Girl Public Relations, wouldn’t necessarily classify herself as a star, however she would say she’s the captain of the cheerleading squad behind each client. Since venturing out on her own two and half years ago, she realized it was one of the best things she’s done for herself, not to mention extremely exciting. It seems to be a trend amongst her peers as well as close friends in this business, seizing the opportunity to become their own boss and ultimately earn a better living.

Diamond Girl Public Relations (derived from Stacy’s family being in the diamond business) represents a variety of luxury lifestyle accounts ranging from beauty, fashion, fine jewelry and accessories to health and fitness.

Stacy has recently stepped out the box to broaden its categories, as DGPR has been working with one of LA’s top real estate firms in regards to “green building”, as well as promoting the firm for simply being the best in the business and the perfect “go to” experts. Stacy feels like she’s learning so much about something new and exciting all the time.

After 5 or 6 years at boutique PR firms, and way too many people asking her if she was the President or owned the company she was working for, she knew it was time to move on. “Corporate PR is a great business because it allows you to pick your niche and the things that interest you and then promote them to the rest of the world”, says Stacy. “Although everyday presents new challenges it’s rewarding to see my clients name or product in the media.”

San Diego Fires: Fashion + Craft Fundraiser

PR Couture is headquartered in San Diego, and we are thankfully located in one of the only places left in the county that isn’t on fire. However, dear friends, clients, colleagues and loved ones have not been so lucky. To stay updated on the latest news, evacuations etc, visit the KPBS Twitter site, which is being updated constantly.

Our dear friend Marimello has used her craft brilliance to create Witch Fire, a blog that is dedicated to raising funds to benefit victims of the San Diego fires. Please assist her through the donation of craft and fashionable items which will be raffled off to those who contribute to relief efforts. Her message is below.

My family all lives in San Diego and 15 of them have been evacuated from 7 of their homes. It’s crazy and since I can’t really do much personally, I thought I would set up a collective to raise money for charities in SoCal. I am looking for donations of items that are like less that $5, anything bigger will be put into a raffle. I will draw names from a pool of anyone who contributes, buys, or just sends in a good contribution story will be entered.

Contact me if you can help! I am figuring out the logistics, and everything right now, so I want to see how much support I can drum up before I go totally nuts operating this thing. Thanks sooooooo much. There are a lot of people and critters out there who can use the help!
