Fashion Design Competition: GenArt + Plastics Make it Possible

PMIP_Contest-Header

Calling all emerging designers and the fashion PR’s who represent them! Plastics Make it PossibleSM and Gen Art are challenging new and established designers to put their creativity to the test and design two dynamic womenswear looks made from fabrics that include plastic-based fibers. After all, without plastic, skinny jeans wouldn’t have their stretch, and that is one innovation I’m not ready to give up on!

In case you haven’t yet heard, Plastics Make it Possible, a program sponsored by America’s plastic makers through the American Chemistry Council has partnered with GenArt, the leading arts and entertainment organization dedicated to showcasing emerging fashion designers, filmmakers, musicians and visual artists, to do some pretty great stuff in fashion land. Most recently, they were part of the Fresh Faces in Fashion LA show during fashion week.

The Grand Prize Winner will create a 10 piece sample collection, utilizing items from the approved materials list to be shown during Gen Art’s New York Winter Fashion Week 2010. The Grand Prize Winner will also receive a $10,000 stipend to create the collection and a trip to New York City to attend the Fashion Week Event.

Designers must submit two photos (one front, one back) of each of the two designs submitted, for a total of four images. All parts of the entry must be the entrant’s own, original, unpublished work and cannot contain anything owned or licensed by another.

For more information, see the complete rules and follow @plasticspossible and @genartpulse on Twitter. Deadline for entry is December 1, 2009. Users will be able to vote on their favorite designs from October 29 to December 15, 2009. Winner will be announced on or around December 21, 2009.

Meet Crosby Noricks

Hi. I'm Crosby, the founder of PR Couture and a creative marketing strategist who works with fashion brands that get it (or want to get it!). I care about helping companies connect to their audiences in meaningful ways, as well as mentoring fashion publicists along their career path. Recently, I was included in iMedia's annual list of 25 Internet Marketing Leaders and Innovators, along with people from Starbucks, Twitter and Volkswagon, which I think is pretty neat. Like Elle Woods, I am a Gemini-vegetarian (that's about where the similarities end). Let's connect: Check out my full bio or get in touch.
