Are you *not* a thought leader, or are you approaching the idea of thought leadership all wrong?

When we think about a thought leader, we imagine a guy — in a blazers and jeans (because #casual) with a biz book in bold orange font to sell, clicking through slides in a dark auditorium filled with other marketing dudes. We think of it as tactic for corporate business folks, for those with 20 or 30 years of experience.

But that’s not what we mean when we talk about becoming a PR thought-leader.

As part of this new PR paradigm, your thought leadership doesn’t mean:

✖️Knowing everything there is to know about a topic

✖️Telling your community how to think about topics of interest.

✖️Speaking up about important issues because everyone else is.

✖️Getting tons of followers and likes so that people will buy from you.

The thought leader we are recommending you become is more like being an influencer, in that you have specific inspiration or educational points that make you a go-to for particular topics or experiences.

Your success is dependent upon how effectively you connect with your audience and you leverage different communication tools to get your message out there.

As a thought leader in the field of communications, you:

✔️Are well informed about a topic and always willing to learn more.

✔️Share informed opinions about topics of interest.

✔️Speak up about important issues because they matter.

✔️Book clients and get opportunities from people who value you.

A thought leader for us is more like being an influencer, in that you have specific inspiration or educational points that make you a go-to for particular topics or experiences.

With the right mindset and strategy, you can far more quickly achieve career milestones, build your freelance PR biz, establish consulting offers and grow your PRofessional empire – plus, it’s far more fun and empowering than simply waiting around to be discovered.
