Whether you commute to work by car, train or subway, a great way to pass the time and learn a little something is to turn off those playlists and turn on your podcasts. I like to listen to podcasts during long drives up to LA (takes my mind off the traffic), and I have friends who catch up on the latest episodes during long walks, or late at night to help them get to sleep.

Of course there are a ton of podcasts out there on a variety of topics (Stuff Mom Never Told You, 99% InvisibleJudge John Hodgman and Creating Forever Love being a few of my favorite non-industry listens), there are several PR and marketing podcasts worth checking out. Here are five to start:

Social Media Marketing

If you want to be the one with the latest insight on all things social media-related, the Social Media Marketing podcast from Social Media Examiner is your new best friend. From Google+ to Instagram and everything in between, host Michael Stelzner brings on subject matter experts to discuss the latest tools, platforms and news in the social space.

Dinner Party Download

An hour-long celebration of culture, food, and conversation, Dinner Party Download is essential listening for any publicist looking to impress a crowd at her next event. As an example, the most recent get-together featured the Arctic Monkeys…and Simon Doonan.

Duct Tape Marketing

If you haven’t enjoyed John Jantsch’s wisdom through his books Duct Tape MarketingThe Commitment Engine and The Referral Engine, at least check out his weekly podcast with interviews with authors, thought leaders and creative entrepreneurs.

MODTV Podcast (Video)

#1 in the Fashion/Beauty vertical in iTunes, ModTV goes backstage at Fashion Week in NY, Milan and Paris, often catching up with supermodels for a quick chat, like this recent episode at the Anna Sui show.

Rise to the Top

Designed for mediapreneurs (defined as those who have a platform online and leverage it to help people and make money), David Siteman Garland’s podcast is great fodder and inspiration for the PR mind, as well as shedding light on new ways your clients can harness digital media for greater business success.
