Exposed Zippers, which launched in 2011, is a blog that goes behind the scenes with members of the fashion industry. Using a Q&A model, the site tells “the personal stories of designers, models, editors, retailers, stylists, bloggers among other types of influencers” in fashion. We are excited to introduce you to the team behind Exposed Zippers!

How do you prefer to receive pitches?
We love when a publicist knows our site and is familiar with the type of insiders we like to feature. But, we meet people all the time doing interesting things in the fashion industry that present valuable new subjects for the site. That organic process usually involves relationship building beyond an email pitch exchange.
How far in advance do you work?
At any given time we are coordinating up to ten different interviews via email, phone, and in person. We post two interviews a week and work with subjects to time their posts alongside an announcement or new collection so our viewers are reading about what’s current.
What is the best time to send pitches?
Anytime is a good time to send a pitch!
What types stories/pitches are you looking for?
One of the things about our site that makes it unique is that we interview interesting people in or connected to the fashion industry. We’re not looking for exclusively major names or personalities attached to huge brands. We are focused on introducing our readers to the people who make fashion happen every day. We love the people behind the scenes!
What makes a great pitch?
A great pitch is personal and comes from someone familiar with the site. And is one that understands our audience and has a purpose rather than a generic press release.
If you are interested, what do you need to move forward?
We decide on the preferred method of interview; and then tailor questions to offer a unique interview for each of our subjects.
What is the best way for a publicist to build a relationship with you?
It’s fun to work with the same publicist over a period of time on multiple interviews or recent developments whether it be from those we’ve featured in the past or new subjects! We love to show our support on the blog and our social media feeds by staying up-to-date on their clients’ news. So just keeping us posted on what’s happening with collaborations, store openings, fashion shows is a great way to build a relationship.
What is a guarantee that a publicist will never hear back from you?
Honestly, being snotty.
