Mexico just like the U.S. has the same mainstream magazines that feature the latest in fashion, style, trends and beauty. If for example you flip through Marie Claire Mexico you will find major brands from the U.S. featured on their pages, along with brands from Mexico. If you know your brand is capable of shipping to Mexico, you have a huge opportunity to also reach a wider audience down south.

What if I want to pitch media in Mexico?

When pitching media in Mexico for mainstream fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan Mexico, Elle Mexico, Glamour Mexico, Harper’s Bazaar Mexico, InStyle Mexico, Marie Claire Mexico and Vogue Mexico. It’s very important to take a look at their media kits to learn about closing dates to plan in advance when sending samples. You can easily google their media kits and find the complete up to date media kit online.

What language are their media kits?

Media kits for Elle Mexico, InStyle Mexico, Harper’s Bazaar Mexico, Marie Claire Mexico and Cosmopolitan Mexico are in English. Media kits for Glamour Mexico and Vogue Mexico are Bilingual.

When contacting editors from Mexico, do I send my pitch in English or Spanish?

I tend to send both my pitch and my press release in English and Spanish, so in the end there won’t be any confusion. I also include a link to the lookbook for further review and always inform the editor if certain pieces are only available for shipment to Mexico.

After being in contact with a few fashion editors from Mexico. I want to say thank you to Maria Jose Guzman, Fashion Editor at InStyle Mexico, (@majoguzman) for taking the time to answer a few questions in regards to pitches and sample requests.

When you receive a pitch from a publicist or brand from the U.S. do you prefer the pitch in Spanish or English?

Actually, I prefer English because this is the native language of the brand and I do not like when things are “lost in translation”. I’m fluent in English and have no problem receiving any information in this language.

When requesting samples from brands or designers located in the U.S. Is there any advice you can give brands and publicists, to make it easier and faster to obtain samples?

They clearly need to inform the magazines how far in advance we need to request samples. It has happened with some brands that have been left out of important publications, because they did not inform me that the sample took x days to reach Mexico and it was too late for the date of the shooting. Also, to send us accurate information about samples or looks that are available for Mexico. Sometimes they send lookbooks, but we know that not all pieces are available to be shipped to this country.
